E-Mail Spam Filtering

Spam is seriously on the rise. Where in late 2003 about 70% of the inbound mail to FishNet was spam, as of spring 2005 the numbers are between 80% and 85%. There is no indication that these levels will do anything but worsen.

If you have ever had to deal with hundreds of spam e-mails in a day, you understand the significant value of such filtering!

Anti-spam and/or anti-virus filtering is available both for mail hosted on FishNet's servers and for those running their own mail server. We run the excellent SpamAssassin system to analyse and tag spam mails.

For those running their own mail server, the FishNet filtering system provides an easy, highly effective means of adding e-mail filtering without any changes to your own mail server. The only changes necessary are to the MX record in the DNS for your domains to be filtered.

Filtering for remote mail delivery to your own server is done by configuring the primary MX record service to FishNet's mail servers; once scanned we forward the good mail to your mail server, and the spam is quarantined on FishNet servers.

Spam mail is quarantined on the FishNet server for review via our webmail system, both for mail hosted on FishNet servers and delivered to your own server. If valid mail is trapped in the spam filter, there is provision for training the system to recognize the mail as good. This permits effective self-management of filtered mail from anywhere you have access to a web browser.
