E-Mail List Services
FishNet provides e-mail list management services for both broadcast and for dialog. Broadcast lists are useful for e-mail newsletters, where only a few authorized users can post to the list. Dialog lists are useful to allow all list members to post to the list.
Our list manager software can operate lists of essentially any size. Searchable Web page archives can optionally be provided as well. For a dialog list, this can provide a rich history of different discussion threads. Daily digest and immediate delivery formats of the same list can be configured, and subscribers have their choice of the format they desire.
In most cases, e-mail lists are fully administerable from a Web browser. This allows the list adminstrator to control all aspects of list operation remotely, including list subscriptions, moderation, problem user filtering, and other common requirements.
The optimum list subscription process includes a positive confirmation by the subscribed user that they do wish to join the list, typically by responding to a confirmation request e-mail. This is the best way to avoid charges of "spamming", as the subscribed user must acknowledge or they will not be added to the list. This prevents third parties from subscribing others without their knowledge.
For some non-technical audiences, many will not understand the subscription confirmation process, and consequently will never completely subscribe.
FishNet prefers that all lists confirm the subscription. It is possible for the list administrator to approve pending subscriptions as well, though this defeats the purpose of preventing unwanted subscriptions.
If neither of these choices is practically available, the list can be implemented to accept unapproved subscriptions. It must be noted that it is the list manager's sole responsibility to respond to all charges of spamming and remove disgruntled users.
NOTE: FishNet will not tolerate spamming of any kind. List services must be used only for those users that have expressed an interest in joining the list. Any other use of our list services is a violation of our Acceptable Use Policy and may result in immediate termination of service.
