[WORSHIP] Youth Band

Hi all,

In a few weeks from now (hopefully) I will be heading up the beginning of my
church's youth music ministry. The end goal is to get these youth involved
in the church services; to provide an opportunity for youth music
development; for the youth ministry to have a band for use in outreach, and
finally to incorporate as much worship material into their known songs so
that in the future there gifts and talents can be used and integrated into
the worship ministry in our church.

To begin with, we are getting a band together made up of a drums, bass, 2
guitars, piano and synth player. We actually have a complete band and if
wanted enough youth muso's to run a second band so there are kide ready to
go... The only vocalist will be a youth Leader who will be working with me
in this development until we know how good the band is and we can
incorporate more players... We also have brass and string sections that
could be incorporated but to begin with, they will be meeting in their own
groups to develop there own skills...

Further more, the songs selection at the beginning of this ministry will be
songs from bands like jars of clay, DC talk, and a few more secular bands
that the youth already listen to. From initial discussions with the kids we
understand that most of them just want to get together and play (jam -
'selah') and then hopefully from there, the focus will move from just
jamming together to a focus of how God can use what they are doing...

So... Is there anyone out there who has began a ministry like this, what
worked, what didn't etc etc...

Thanks
