Re: [Worship] secular music

This is really a hard topic and there definitely is not just one correct
response to this question. I would propose that it is not so much my
choice whether a song should be used, but God's choice. It would be wise
to submit such songs to the Holy Spirit. If have peace about using the
song, then go ahead. God can really move in mysterious ways.

I personally will shy away from using secular music. I guess it is an
"unclean vessel" thing for me - I wouldn't feel comfortable using it.
"Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree
bringeth forth evil fruit." (Matt. 7:17), which is the reason I wouldn't
use such song. Now the Holy Spirit will probably challenge me to trust
Him completely and use such a song anyway! He has got his own "ways and
means"- committee.

We should never under estimate the Holy Spirit do to what he has
purposed to do. Although He might use a secular song, He definitely
doesn't need one to save unbelievers. "Getting saved" is much more a
spiritual thing, than a "mind" thing. "And when he (the Holy Spirit) is
come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of
judgment:" (John 16:8)

I do believe that we should be culturally relevant. We are living in the
90's, almost the year 2000. I'm sure that God wants do to a new thing
every day!

I'm a believer in prophetic evangelism, e.g.. "Just yesterday you were
thinking to yourself..., but God says, 'If you will follow me, ....'".
To me it is the most powerful way of evangelism, but it doesn't happen
often in a church service. It happens more in a one-on-one scenario.

God bless.
