[Worship] Campus worship
Hi everyone,
Thanks to everyone who's been discussing the multi-denominational worship
thing. I learned a lot from it. Anyway, at the start of the whole thread, I
shared a vision that I have regarding a time of worship on the campus of the
University of Alberta. The vision was to unite christians to worship
together, and pray for the campus together.
I want to give you guys a background of where I'm coming from...
Over 7 years ago, all the youth groups from the Korean churches in Edmonton
decided to meet together every month in rallies called Youth In Christ. It
was awesome seeing people getting saved, the lost coming back to Christ. A
few years later, it grew to include chinese churches, and now it consists of
Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Philipino youth groups coming
together to worship God. It's been awesome watching this grow, especially
from a Korean perspective. Korean churches in North America have a nasty
habit of splitting up and a lot of bitterness come out of it. However, the
youth are giving an example of unity in the body of Christ within ALL the
Asian churches, and are sending a message to the parents that it can be
done.
I've been involved with the worship bands from day 1 of this, playing drums,
guitar, and even leading worship. From this I thought, "wouldn't it be
awesome to see the various Christian groups (CCC, IVCF, etc.) and church
groups come together in a time of worship and prayer." I've seen it work
over the years. Just this weekend, I was at a Promise Keepers conference,
where over 12000 men from different denominations came together. That's what
God wants to see. People desiring God, hungry for the Father's love, and
then sharing it with their families, friends, and churches. When we focus on
the bigger issues of salvation, seeing the lost come back to God, purity,
etc., denominational/theological differences seem to take a back
seat. Isn't that the way it should be?
Anyway, I'd like you guys to pray for us here in the University of Alberta,
as we begin the Campus Worship thing. We're going to start this Wednesday
evening, and continue every week. Pray that God will give us direction and
wisdom. There has been so much willingness aomng people I've talked to from
various churches and christian groups. I pray that this is something from
God, and not from our own desires. We're going to start off small, with a
guitar, some percussions, and go from there.
Blessings to you all, and keep us in your prayers.
