Re: [Worship] vocal training?

The second reason has more to do with the will of God in regard to our use
of talent. I read in a book about God's will for the Christian that, when
determining career choices, you make honest assessments of talents and
interests. When you find talents and interest that overlap, you know
you're close to finding out some of the things God desires for you to be
doing because he is the author of our talent. Is it any different when we
make choices for areas of service in our church? After all, God requires
us to be good stewards of both time and talent. Are we doing that by
pursuing areas of service where we obviously lack talent?

As long as it is an obvious lack of talent and not just a lack of training or
some other unseen thing... the reason that I say this is that I would not be
singing today had I used your method of whether or not I should be doing it. I
am a person that always.... or at least almost always sung flat and I still
sometimes have problems with staying in the right key when unaccompanied... The
desire was so strong however that I just kept on, I was not aware of just how
poorly I sang until I took a few lessons, it only took two to correct the major
things in my voice, then listened to a tape of before and after. I have since
contiunued to improve and try to pick up tips as often as I can from other
singers. The other thing which greatly affected my singing was my tonsils... I
had no idea that they should not be almost touching... They were so large that
they literally blocked airflow which is an important part of vocalizing...
after I had my tonsils out I gained a whole octave in my range and the clarity
was like night and day. The combination of the change in the tonsils and the
instruction on the proper way to sing have changed my voice from one that folks
would suffer listening to into one that amazes even myself. All glory and honor
to God for this. I know that it is He that directed me down the path that I
have tread and He has led me to where I could receive instruction.

Blessings...
