[Worship] Training Vocalists

Greetings: I guess I might as well add my length
of string to this thread regarding what to do
about those "Less-than" vocalists.

I have not only audio taped my worship team
but I have also video taped the adult choir to play
back for them to review. The adult choir did
such a bang up job on a couple of pieces a few
weeks ago that at our next rehearsal, I had the
VCR/TV set up to play it back for them to
encourage them and build them up since they
don't get to hear the results of their hard labour.
They really enjoyed it and I think appreciated the
effort on my part. Brownie points.
I think it's a great idea to tape the worship
team and play it back for them. It's a great, and
yet non-threatening, way to let people hear (yes,
even the worship leader) where improvement is
needed.
I guess if you inherit bad singers you do have
a problem. No worship leader wants to be in
that position but there is always an answer.
Training. I agree with the person who said that
you wouldn't allow an untrained musician to stay
on your team very long before it would be
obvious to everyone that it just wasn't going to
work unless they got some serious training. I
believe everyone on the worship team should be
treated equally and should have equal
expectations placed upon them.
We have a policy in our worship teams that
any new prospects must come and practise with
the worship team for a minimum of one month
and as long as three months before they are
ever placed on stage leading in worship. This
eliminates many "tricky" situations. Some
people just realize they aren't cut out for it, all on
their own. PTL!
O.K. I've gone on long enough. What sayest
thou?
