First, you need to work out what role each of you is playing in the song.
If both of you are trying to make as much noise as possible, it'll never
work! When playing with piano, you often need to cut severely in the mid
range (around 400Hz). If you are playing power chords and low end stuff,
get the piano player to play sparsely up an octave. Are you playing a
melody, then Elton should be playing chords. Do you have a bass player? If
so, chop off Billy's left hand :-). Buy them a synth for Christmas and tell
them to play nice string sounds!
This is a bit tongue in cheek, but I hope it helps. To sum up, c less is
more.
