I simply ask in those situations, prisons and homeless shelters, what their
favorite worship or praise songs.....they often don't know many, or don't know
titles....in a more established Friday night service with homeless, we're kind
of letting them establish their own by trial and error, occasionally
introducing songs that we think might touch them based on what they sing on
their own.......this is a very slow process....working with homeless/prison
musicians is not anything like working with suburban, middle class
musicians.....this is "eyes of Jesus training."
I think one thing that will work is Ron Kenoly videos and videos from the
Brookyn Tabernacle Choir, and we will be using those in the next few weeks.
Keep at it.
