[Worship] Hey Vocalists and worship leaders. . .

Hey List,

I am a vocalist on our worship team. I also play back-up keys for our worship leader when he is out of town.

I was wondering about a few things and would like to survey the vocalists and WL's. Would you please respond to the following questions: Vocalists, please answer for yourselves; WL's, please concerning the makeup of your vocalists.

1. Do you read music?
2. If so rate yourself: Excellent, Above Average, Average, Fair
3. Can you confidently sight sing music?
4. Do you learn music more "by ear" or written music?
5. Would you be interested in improving your sight singing?
6. Can you confidently hear and sing harmonies?
7. Do you hear "counter-melodies" in the accompaniment?
8. Do you feel confident "ad libbing"?

Worship Leaders - one more question. Do you require your vocalists to read music? Why or why not?

Thanks for answering these questions. I am a piano teacher and vocal instructor (private studio). Many of my friends and fellow worship team members do not read music and have expressed to me their frustration and desire for a way to acquire/improve this skill. More than a few have encouraged me to develop something to serve the teams in this regard. I would love any further comments you may offer!

I have done a couple of weekend seminars locally, specifically for non-music reading vocalists. A weekend seminar can lay a foundation but some on-going follow-up is needed. If you have any experience in this regard I would like to hear about it as well. I have a desire to serve the body through instruction in this area so your comments are greatly appreciated----------------------------------------------------------------------
