This is a sad story. I have two children. My husband and I are both on the
worship team. I used to have a sitter on Tuesday so that I could go to
rehersal, but she moved. Now, I bring my children with me to rehersal
because I have no other choice. I was very up front and honest with our
worship leader in telling them that I could not attend rehersal unless I
could bring my children. He said bring them along. I just want to tell
all you worship leaders out there that 9 times out of 10, my children have
been a "blessing" and a "joy" to watch during rehersal. They enter into
worship!!!! My daughter grabs the banners and dances around the church (she
is 7) and so does my son (who is four). Sure, they have their arguments and
every now and then I have to step off the platform to intervene, but for the
most part, they are learning to worship the Lord and I thank my worship
leader that he continues to allow me to bring my children along. I realize
thought that if they were to ever to become a total distraction, I may have
to make other arrangements. But for now, they love to come and worship the
Lord!
As for pre-service prayer, our nursery and children's church workers arrive
at 9:30, which is the time our prayer starts, so we have that area covered.
We have been blessed to have workers available for most of our leadership
meetings and other functions as well.
One thing we have done just recently in our church..... we have required all
those who desire to be in a place of leadership in the church to serve once
a month in children's ministry. No one feels "forced" because they are
doing what Jesus has called them to do -- "serve". We are servants first
and we not too long ago had a great need in the area of children's
ministries with not having enought workers. Sine we have implemented this
new requirement, we have never had a problem with filling the need. Our
children are ministered to effectively, and visiting families have a place
to send their children so that they can enjoy the service.
Something the rest of you may want to think about!!!
Blessings!
