Re: [Worship] Music Relevant to Youth (philosophy)

Delirious? Matt Redman, kevin prosch etc and came back fired up to
worship but because the band at church is pretty tame (I play in the
band!!) and the leader can't seem to snap out of the usual Integrity,
Hosanna stream of songs, the youth seem very turned off.

It also depends on the style of the way the songs are done. My band
in youth church is really hard-rocking. One of the songs we do is
"Burn in me" from Hosanna's Holy Fire CD. It's one of our wildest
tunes. We do it kind of 80s hard rock style, you know, start slow and
soft, then start playing loud guitars with heavy rhythms. You'd never
guess it was on a Hosanna album with brass sections and everything.
On the other hand if you do Deliriou5 tunes with just an organ and no
drums or anything, it's not gonna sound very "cool".
I often notice when worship bands do really contemporary tunes in the
older gospel style that their used to playing in. It just doesn't
sound right!

Old habits are hard to get out of. I know my band has the terrible
problem of playing every song the same. And I usually play the same
licks all the time. It's really pathetic! To think it's gonna get
worse as I get older!
