[Worship] Re: worship-digest V1 #407

I wrote recently sharing my concerns about youth worship and Paul LePine
responded writing

>I do think there's some merit in the elders'
>desire to avoid marginalizing the youth.

I think that's soemthing I want to ensure doesn't happen. i don't want
there to be token youth meetings or a patronising approach to them because
they need to be valued as part of the wider family. I don't want to get
into youth services because that would mean some of the adults would
perceive that it wasn't for them etc. isn't this such a delicate balance
that needs to be found?

Mark Hubbard pointed out
>One always needs to ask the question why you're doing a song.
>Will it lead people to worship? Do you need to make a statement to
>the youth that you want them and want to have music relevent to them?

I've wondered about this! The flip side seems to be that I want to do
whatever I can to make the worship experience easier for them and surely if
a song is closer in musical taste to the youth in the church it will help
draw them into worship. And isn't it the case that older people in the
church who perhaps don't like that style should have more maturity/ability
to lay down some of their musical preferences to encourage the younger
people in the congregation to take pasrt. I know it should be both sides
wanting to encourage each other but I feel that it should be the more
mature in God who have the wisdom to make the move to start the ball
rolling and encourage the next generation through.

erm...just a thought!
