[Worship] feeling guilty
Joe etc.
First, I appreciate David's comments and his counsel regarding handling folks who leave churches. I think you have a courageous and biblical approach, brother. We here in the States, at least, have so convinced ourselves that no one should ever call another person wrong that we can't handle honest accountability. Yes, it can be abused, and I have seen that too. But I have also seen a great deal of church hopping going on because, bottom line, we just refuse to commit ourselves to a body "for better or worse," let alone when we just don't feel like staying.
I am not saying that is the case with you, Joe. Please don't read into this any judgment on your position, because I don't know you or your situation. I have two questions for you, though. First, is it possible for you to begin training someone (or someones) to take your place? I couldn't tell from your post if that was possible. That is something we should all be doing all the time. Making ourselves indispensable (I'm not saying you have done that) doesn't make for healthy ministry.
Second, I see a red flag when you say this is the second pastor with whom you have had trouble. Maybe you're just unlucky-as I said, I don't know you or the situation. But it's also possible that part of the problem lies with you, if this is becoming a pattern. Always look for the common denominator. Just a suggestion-you can examine the truth of the situation for yourself as I cannot. I don't want to add guilt to someone who may already be hurting, so if you've prayed it through and the shoe doesn't fit, don't wear it.
Whatever the case, keep praying as I know some on this list are. If God tells you to go, go with a clear conscience. If He doesn't, stay with grace.
Jill
