Re: [Worship] Secular Music
Jonathan you asked whether listening to secular music was o.k for christians?
I think it simply comes down to asking yourself "If Jesus were sitting
right next to me- would I be ashamed of the music I was listening to?" ( He is
with us by the way)
However, secular music is not synonomous with sinful music. In Rick
Warrens book "The purpose Driven Church" he mentions that there is no such
thing as Christian music -only Christian lyrics". There are some really great
secular songs out there that are not at all avocating immorality or deviant
behavior. Listening to them is no different than reading a great book that
never happens to mention Christ.
By the way, I have to say that I would be embarrssed by some of the
christian music out there (The quality ) if Jesus where next to me physically
right now.
I suppose if we never wanted to listen to any Christian music or read
Christian books we should question ourselves but balance is the key.
