Re: [Worship] Prophecy during worship

In our church, a prophetic word or exhortation almost always comes
during worship--almost never during the sermon. This makes sense to me
as it is during worship that people are 'entering in' to the Holy of
Holies. This is the time of the service that people will most strongly
feel the presence and annointing of the Holy Spirit--and I think it is
good that it is expressed as long as it is done appropriately.

That being said, I also think it is important to at least mention
(especially if a word comes in tongues) that you are a church that
wants to do the whole Bible, including spiritual gifts. Give a brief
explaination of how God talks to His people today through prophecy and
tongues. This is especially important if there are new members or
visitors in the church--and only needs to take a couple of sentances
to accomplish effectively, then end by directing anyone who wishes
more information to talk with a pastor(or other leader depending on
how your church is set up) after the service. You may also want to
keep some copies of a bible study or sermon about prophecy and the
spiritual gifts available to hand out to people who are interrested in
looking into the Word on the subject, but need a starting point.

I say it is so important to do this, because having come out of a
'traditional' church where these things were never done or discussed,
it was a little strange and unsettling for me when I first began
attending a large (appx 2000 people) charismatic church and a little
lady with a big voice stood up in the middle of worship and started
yelling out in some strange babbling voice. Then someone on the other
side of the building started yelling something out in English. I
couldn't understand what was being said, and no explaination was
offered. The person with the interpretation was not even given a mic
so that people could hear the word. Now that I understand more about
the spiritual gifts, I am saddened that more effort was not given to
TEACHING about the phenomena at that church.
