RE: [Worship] inverted chords

I guess we can just call these slash chords. Yes,
a first inversion is C/E and a 2nd is C/G.

A lot of times, there are other slash chords
like C/D or C/Bb or Am/G. I love this chords,
and they tend to be used in a lot of R&B to imply
the change a step ahead.

e.g. Look at this progression:
  | G | C/D | D/F# | Em7/D |

If the bass line is:
  |G D |D C-D |F# - e | D G |

Now if you really want to get funky,
change keys to Bb.

Now the progression is:
  |Bb |Eb/F |F/A | Gm7/F |
and try playing bass with a Motown feel.
  |Bb F-A|F Eb-F-E|A F-Gb-G| F Bb|
BTW, those As and Es are open-strings on the bass
guitar, that are played as grace-notes (hey,
are there Law notes?)

Greg Sand's post summarized everything possible
on this topic.

Notice how the bass-line anticipates the change, and
helps propel the music forward! Learning to play
bass a few years ago whetted this guitar-player's
appetite for piano.
