Re: [Worship] Desesperate with a flute sound problem...
Our worship team is similarly compozed and we often use a flute. Usually
we don't even use a clip on mike, but either a headset, or a vocal mike.
Yea it can be hard sometimes, especially with the vocal mike...(hold
still!... I ... said... hold...still). *G* I cut the bass, and give the
treble a little bit of a boost, throw in a bit of reverb, and a touch of
sterio chorus, and it sounds great.
For the monitors, remember less is more. Every one dosn't have to have
evry thing in their monitor. Give the singers the singers, leader,
keyboard, maby a touch of guitar. The instrumentalists need the leader,
keyboards, flute. Every one (especially each other) needs to hear the
bass and drums, but usually thats NOT a problem. BTW, I am only using
50W/channel for our monitor mix, and other than when I had a tape on and
had the volume cranked, I have yet to light up the clip indicator.
Eq your system, set unity gain, and set your output to a comfortable
level. If something needs to be louder, instead of bringing it up, cut
everything else back. If you have to you can boos the output back up
later. Threaten to beat up your guitar player if they don't cut back a
bit. You can mike them if you have to, try setting their amps backwards
and angled up (like a monitor).. they'll cut back then. *G*
Speaking of Guitar amps and to much volume, we are trying to clean up
our sound a bit... and wanted to try a sound trap (sound killer, or
soaker) with our guitar amps. I have seen them someplace, but don't
remember where... any ideas. We have a very accomplished carpenter /
cabinet maker in our group, so plans, or a description would be good
enough.
On the subject of accoustics, if you are surrounded by hard walls and
glass like we are, accoustic wall treatments can make a world of
difference.
If you have hard walls on your stage, try ssome sort of acoustic
treatment. There are some nice attractive wall coverings, and pannels
out there that do a good job.
Hope this is of some help.
