[Worship] The Ultimate Purpose Of Worship (And Of All Things)

Hello List,

   A beautiful verse jumped out at me just now, and I wanted to share it
with you right away. It clearly and precisely answers the questions all
of us humans have asked: "Why am I here? What is the purpose of life?"
For us involved in worship, it also answers the question, "What is the
ultimate purpose of worship."

  Here is the verse with all the big answers . . .
       
      "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power:
       for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are
       and were created." (Revelation 4:11 KJV)


  Isn't this great! The ultimate purpose of everything is give pleasure
to the Lord! It's not "to obey His every command," although that probably
does bring Him some pleasure. It's not "to be spotless and without sin,"
although that would probably bring Him some pleasure, if it were ever
achieved. And it's certainly not "to deny ourselves and mortify the
flesh," although that maybe gives Him some pleasure in the sense that it
tends to keep us out of trouble.

  No, the ultimate purpose is simply to give pleasure to the Lord. This is
the standard by which all of our actions should be judged. 

  As people involved in musical worship, we are particularly blessed
with opportunity to please Him, because He loves music! This is why
He gave us musical abilities, so we could please Him with our music!

  So we can begin each day now by asking, "How can I best please the Lord
today? What can I do to bring Him the most pleasure?"

  I don't know about you, but for me this simplifies and clarifies
things quite a bit.
