I am located in West Virginia (Morgantown). I go to a church about 30 minutes
away in Fairmont, WV where dance was not practiced when I began attending.
Expressions of any joyous sort in fact were few. So it has been a lot of
plowing hard ground to see dance break through in my present church. God has
been faithful and has worked in many people's hearts to see this expression as
a form of worship and praise accepted in our church.
We are not presently a large dance group but have been through different
seasons. The class has been opened up to all the churches in the area, and
that brought a level of unity that was missing in our community. I have met
some beautiful and hungry people who are seeking freedom in their worship.
That has been the biggest reward......seeing people set free to worship the
"Almighty." This is my true heart and part of my call as an intercesor is to
see God's children free to worship Him with all their being. Dance is just one
of those vehicles
I happen to love to help us enter into His presence, and give him glory.
We, like you have used billows (thanx to the creativity and experience of one
of the participants, Praysdanse, who happens to be on this discussion list
also). We have used flags,
banners, scarves, glory hoops, and anything else we can use as an instrument
of praise. (I've even been known to blow a whistle :) in rhythm with the
band).
We love hip-hop, Isreali, ballet, African, sign, interpretive and anything
that moves our feet. Can't say we are proficient in all
of them, but we like to stay open and strive to get further training whenever
possible.
At this time I believe God is stretching me personally and I'm preparing to
do a few duets, quite possibly a solo. Congregational celebration has to be my
favorite type of dance beyond any other though. As you can see we have had
tremendous breakthroughs in the 2 years I have been attending my present
church. We owe that to a pastor who has a heart after God and much prayer and
repentance. We are still seeking MORE and MORE of His presence. I pray we are
never satisfied, but always searching for more of a revelation of Christ in
our lives and more of His love in our hearts.
We are very soon taking some of this ministry outside the church to bring
to those who need hope and healing. You can pray that God will touch lives
through us, so others can meet Him as well and know of His awesome love and
salvation.
Would there happen to be any other unidentified dancers out there
lurking? Please expose yourselves and let us know what kinds of new things you
are doing!
