Re: [Worship] Weak Choruses

Laurie,
You raise a very important issue. You, by yourself, my NOT be able to
carefully check out every line of every song you are considering for use.
Perhaps you, by yourself, are not supposed to.
But if we're going to use them for public worship shouldn't SOMEBODY be
doing it?
Ideally some of that goes into the writing and publishing of a song in the
first place --through the writer's church, through the publiser, etc.
Unfortunately, there are many cases in which this does not seem to be
happening, which creates more work for the "end users".

So, who else in the the local church and the church at large can be part
of this process? the local body oversees and tests the teaching.... ? Are
these folks-- pastors, teachers, elders, etc.--involved in some way in the
"song-screening" process (they DO teach after all!) ? Could there be
networks of people trained in the Scriptures, and if possible having some
lyric sense, able to help local churches evaluate songs by answering
questions and providing "reviews" ?

(I do a tiny bit of this, and can see many possibilities for this as a key
part of a web and e-mail based "ministry" --including also helping churches
think through building a rich "repertoire"-- but the task is rather
daunting. If anyone knows someone engaged in such activity--especially
on the web --I'd be very interested in hearing about it.)
