Re: [Worship] Re: Worship leaders worshiping
Dave wrote 8< My favourite example of "other ways to worship besides
singing" is staff-leaning. "By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each
of Joseph's sons, and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff." Heb.
11:21, NIV 8<
Extra credit: why did Jacob need to lean on a staff? Why is that posture
important to the author of Hebrews?
Buzzzz!
Jacob leaned on his staff because of the wound inflicted when he "wrestled
with a man" (Gen 32:24-30). Perhaps the author is reminding us that the
heart of Jacob's worship was in his recognition of God's power over him. On
the one hand he knew he could not prevail, but on the other, he would not
let go until God blessed him. Father, may we refuse to let go in our
wrestling with You, and may we be touched by Your power, even if it wounds
us.
