Re: [Worship] 666. . . and WORSHIP!

Hi ... I'm a computer scientist from the Great White North (Canada). I
have an observation about the message that sparked this thread.

You know, folks, sometimes a number, is just a number. In the Unix
operating system, file permissions are captured by a string of 9 bits
where the bits, left to right are interpreted as:

                 uuugggooo
                 rwxrwxrwx

Where u=user, g=group, and o=others,
and r=read, w=write, and x=execute

When a file is encoded for transfer, the permisions are generally set to
read and write for everyone (user, group, and others), but not execute.
This translates to a 1 bit for each r and w above, and a 0 bit for each
x, or:
             110110110

Now, 110 in binary is the digit 6, so this number in octal notation is
then 666 as a result.

So there it is ... simple as that ... no demons or hidden messages ...
just a simple number that indicates that anyone can read or write the
file, and no one can execute it.
