[Worship] Re: Concert Pitch

Charli,

Thanks for the marshmallow hugs. Much needed right now!

Concert pitch is a band and orchestra term used to help certain instrumentalists
whose instruments transpose. The fact that a Bb trumpet's natural open pitch is
an actual Bb but is written as a C is true and a good explanation has been
given. Now, you ask, since a trombone's natural open pitch is ALSO Bb and THEIR
written note is also Bb, how does THAT work? Don't ask...

The other term that might be confused here is "Standard Pitch". This is an
international term, at least among piano, organ and musical instrument
technicians. This is where the A above middle C is set to 440 vibrations per
second. You should be able to check your master tuning on your electronic
instruments and make sure that it is set to 440. If you are set to 440, then you
are at Standard Pitch and exactly where you need to be. Your guitar player needs
to conform to that pitch for his own well-being. If s/he has a tuner, it needs
to be set to 440 as well so that there is no variance in pitch sources. Further
his/her guitar was designed to withstand a certain amount of tension to sound
its very best. That is also based on string dimensions and pitch at 440.
