RE: [Worship] Sound question / Guitars into PA system.

If you buy a pedal board like a Digitech RP-12 ??? it is possible to
do something like this, because the board has built in
amp & speaker emulators along with a tube in the preamp.
The guitarist can arrange to hear himself using the headphone
output of the unit.

The sound guy gets complete control over the sound level.

I do this frequently at our church. I don't bother with the headphones.

I don't have the great sound that can come from a great amp etc...
but between the drums, bass, 2 keyboards, other guitars, it really
doesn't matter how unique or perfect my sound is. Especially
since I don't really play much in the way of leads etc...

For me as a guitarist the advantage of a multipurpose board like
this is that I don't spend any time fiddling with my sound like
the other guitarists do. They constantly are twiddling their
EQ, gain, volume, effects level to try and achieve the perfect
sound.

Me, I just pick a sound and go with it, knowing that in the mix,
much of perfect sound I might spend hours trying to achieve
will be lost.

You definitely need some sort of amp & speaker- emulator
if you want to go this route with electric guitars. They don't
sound right if you go straight into the PA without it.

That's my opinion though.
