Re: [Worship] quality choir rehearsals
David Clemenson writes, in part:
>I use a rehearsal plan found in "Choral Questions and Answers: For the
>Rehearsal" by David Dickau and Allen Petker, published by Pavane.
David,
this sounded very interesting - is the book still in print? Do you have
contact info for Pavane?
As far as the original question I direct a 20 member ensemble (16 singers,
oboe, piano, 2 guitars, bass, drums with occassional brass and hand
percussion). Our rep can be traditional 4 part, CCM, a little bit of P &W
and a lot of original verse/refrain style. Music is all ritual bases (Roman
Catholic).
We rehearse Thursdays for 2 hours/week. Generally the first hour is
work-ahead. The second hour we work on Sunday's music. Interspersed with
the music we proclaim the readings for that Sunday with special emphasis
and faith sharing around the gospel. We close with intercessory prayer. And
ending rehearsal by going out for pizza has helped to foster table
fellowship.
