As it sounds. your sound(person) has the tape return from the deck directly
into the tape return on the sound board.  This on most boards this only
allows the sound to be sent to the main speakers.  If you want the sound
sent to the monitor mix(s) it should be sent from the tape player directly
into ( 1stereo channel) or (2 mono channels).  This allows the sound person
to send the signal to where ever the mix is needed.
