[Worship] Re: Worship Digest V1 #874
Guys
I have real problem everytime I read something on this list that is
erroneous(wrong)-Please if you dont have the text of something either
in front of you DON'T make statements that are general to say the least
for the record ,as I write this reply
I have in front on me the vocal Score of the Beethoven 9th - which I
have sung both as soprano soloist and in choir and am to sing again(?)
next month - I'm really not fond of singing Beethoven as he didn't know how
to write for the female voice
HOWEVER Schillers poem which correctly you say is not a hymn and whilst it
does not give praise to God IT does call on us all to
WORSHIP God!! The whole rhetoric of the poem initially asks IS There
a GOD(Bruder Aber'm Sternenzelt muss ein leiber Vater wohnen - Ihr
sturzt neider,Millionen?Ahnest du den Schopfer,Welt?Such'ihn uber'm
Sternenzelt! Uber Sternen muss er wohnen.)once the decision is made
via the questions that YES there is a God the incredible round starts
Yes there is a God there is a God and we should worship HIM.
whilst this piece of music is listed as the Ode to JOY it was written
at the height of revolution in Europe in the early 1800's and it
is felt by some commentators that this was the musical reply by
Beethoven to the freedom that was happening now that Napoleon had
been defested.I might add that the melody that Beethoven used to
eventually become the 4th Movement was a Russian Folksong.
Happy New Year to you all
God Bless

>One correction. Schiller's poem, which is in German and was what Beethoven

>joyful")
