There are two schools of thought here. The first is that we should be aware
of what's going on around us. What is the congregation doing, are they
"entering in", twiddling their fingers, checking their watches or whatever.
There are times when we should check to see what is going on around us (too
see if the congregation is still there). The other school of thought is
that is if we are modelling worship, then that's what we should be doing.
Worshipping in the way we can do it best. If that is with eyes closed, so
be it.

There were times when I first began leading after our original worship
leader left, that I would look out and people wouldn't be worshipping. What
I would do would be to focus on someone who was worshipping and then go
back to worshipping myself. It is important that we don't let one or two
people in the congregation effect how we worship. Our worship is for and to
Him.
