[Worship] New Style of Music

Hi,

My name is Brian Archer. I have been on the list before, but I have been
off for a while. Anyway I am a solo pastor and we have been having some
challenges with the worship. I wonder if you could give me guidance.

A group of worship leaders are wanting to introduce new music in a "pre-
worship" format. At least that is what we called it for a time. It goes like
this. They are introducing 3-4 new songs from the Vineyard and Hillsong
variety in a package before our regular worship. They do this a few times a
month and for the most part they are the same songs until we get used to
them.

I appreciate what they are doing, but I am hearing various rumblings that
the music is too long, too loud and doesn't seem to flow with the rest of the
service. I would agree that 3-4 new songs at a time is probably to much.
But I am struggling with how to guide the worship leaders to focus on what
worship is all about.

Everyone has their style, their likes and dislikes. We sing choruses all the
time, but some think they are to old and stale. We still have some who like
hymns. You have to remember that I am in a 90+ year old church that has a
lot of tradition. People are mostly gracious, but I really don't think that
anyone no matter their preference is happy.

I feel we have lost our focus. We are there to worship God, not focus on
our likes and dislikes. Any input would be appreciated.
