It seems to me that the issue isn't the music, but how they are doing it.
My question would be "what are they trying to achieve?" Is it a way of
introducing and learning new music? Or is it to push their own
(un)theological barrow on worship and to try and psych the congregation
into a particular "experience".
If its too loud, simple, they turn down.
If its too long then it seems to me they are using mindless repetition (how
can 3-4 songs be too long otherwise). This is not necessarily worship. It
can just as much be psychological manipulation as used by cults and
brainwashers.
The why is more important than the how. It is your job as pastor to help
them to work through their reasons and to develop Biblical ones. The same
with the congregation. Are their objections valid? Some are by the sounds
of it. But perhaps theres an issue of intolerance as well. Then they need
to learn acceptance as well.
Of course this is my thoroughly biased opinion :-)
