[Worship] No God Like Jehovah

Steve Tichenor <stichen@mindspring.com> wrote about words that may be
confusing to non-Christians - e.g. 'There is no God like Jehovah' in Days
of Elijah. I quite agree that we shouldn't surrender good songs to
misconceptions, and that it is probably best to say a few words about the
song before singing it if there is a problem.

I had a similar experience with this very song, but it was the words 'These
are the days of Elijah' that someone objected to. Their arguement was that
these are not in fact the days of Elijah. I recently read something by
Robin Mark where he was describing the birth of this song. It was written
out of the troubles in Northern Ireland at the time when the first
ceasefire was declared in 1994. He writes that God spoke to him and said
that these were like Elijah days where men needed to be like Elijah in the
face of great opposition and stand up and declare "There is no God like
Jehovah". Robin himself admits that the song is not an easy one to
understand, and that it is remarkable the way in which it has captured so
many hearts in worship.

I think it's really important that we don't sink to the lowest common
denominator in the way we choose worship songs. Some songs may have
difficult words. Well, isn't it surely a greater blessing to come to a
point of understanding than to just reject a song out of hand?
