Mikael,

I can imagine that some have said this, but I think it's based on a
misunderstanding of what David actually did in setting up worship in Israel.
The story is told in 1 Chronicles It is NOT about replacing the
tabernacle/temple worship, but setting the groundwork for the Temple he so
longed to build, and which God told him his son would build --collecting
materials, making plans.

Yes, he did ADD some things, especially by the organization of Levite
musicians and "gatekeepers" (what "gates"? the TEMPLE gates!). But,
please note, he did NOT set up a competing system. That very organization
was done at the end of his life, for the Temple soon to follow (see 1 Chr
23:1-5, 27-32). For his own explanation of what he was doing, read
through 1 Chronicles 22 and 28.

So no, he did not "replace" the altar of incense. He only added to it!
