This is just to keep all of you informed and to again ask for your prayer.
As you will remember, the worship team (Five people (four players and one
prayer) who play guitar, bass, djembi, sometimes violin, sometimes trumpet
with 2 lead singers) starts AM this Sunday. This is traditionally a
choir/organ/piano hymn based AM service.
Last night (Thursday) the team met for prayer/practice/prayer. We started
out (after prayer) by again discussing what we wanted to accomplish next
Sunday morning. We agreed it was not about music style (we all agreed we
like this style of music but that is not the point) but about worship. Our
job was to get people to the place of worship. Our job is to model and
facilitate worship. Most, though this is not rigid, of our songs will be
vertical not horizontal. We will talk to, not about, God. We expect
opposition but also expect that God is "bigger than the boogie man."
We then spent a lot of time setting up - wires, volumes, mike placement,
people placement, checking tuning and batteries.
We then talked about songs. We how have 9 songs in our library. We picked
out 3 (we only have 10-15 min). We ran through the first and decided the
nitty gritty (how many times, how we end, etc.) Then the second and third.
We then set the order. The practice portion did not go as well as we have
done before but I think it was a lot of nerves. We again reminded each other
that although we will do our best, it is not about performance. (boy that
sound hyper religions but it is really about Jesus)
Next we talked about future songs. I have been a long time subscriber to the
Song Discovery stuff and had give out one of these CD to each of the team
and to each of our elders and asked that they pick out a song that they
liked. One of the elders had picked out a song and I told the group. We put
it and several others on "future" lists.
Last we prayed.
Any suggestions?
Please pray. "God specializes in things thought impossible. He does the
things others cannot do." but it is still scary.
