Hi Daniel,
You asked...

I don't know what other basses you've played or what kind of bass you have
now. I am extremely happy with my Mexican made Fender Jazz bass. I think my
wife paid around $300 as a Christmas gift a few years ago. I *did* replace
the pickups with some special retro-fit J-bass pickups made by DiMarzio.
(The old pickups hummed more than I liked and I had read a glowing review of
the DiMarzio pickups in Bass Player magazine. I'm very happy with the
DiMarzio pickups (they cost around $100 at the time.)
So, if you haven't already checked out the mid-priced Fender Jazz, I suggest
you do before you go with the Ibanez or Yamaha.
(I played a fretless Yamaha that was on sale at Mars Music a few weeks ago
and
if I had had the $300 to spend I would have snatched it up. I've always been
impressed with Yamaha basses. I think Ibanez SG basses look cool, but I've
always found their tone a little thin for my tastes.)
I've coveted that Stingray myself, but I've noticed that Jon Thatcher of
Delirious has switched to a J-bass recently. Don't know why. Could be any
number of reasons from an endorsement from Fender to the fact that he just
likes the J-bass better.

There is nothing you can do to cause God to love you less.
There is nothing you can do to cause God to love you more.
This is not a nice, safe inspirational thought. It's highly
controversial. And it's the gut wrenching truth. Wake up!
