[Worship] Teaching Stage Presence

Oh what an interesting thread ??????????

If what you call "Stage Presence" is the jigging around to the will
of the conductor as seen in many churches - I can teach any dumb
animal to do tricks on command (and do)BUT if you are talking about
communicating the lyrics and the attitude, this comes from the heart
and is not easily taught. If the persons on the worship cannot
communicate the meaning of the lyrics then may I suggest that their
calling is not to be on the worship team - yes that's a bit strong
I know but perhaps we really need to examine the motive as to why a
person is on the worship team.

Let me put it this way - we are all called to worship but only a few
have the anointing to lead worship - its this anointing that we should
be seeking to impart to those who are desirous of becoming part of the
"worship team"

e.g. I sing in the leading choir in Australia, recently we sang the
John Rutter "Gloria" in the Sydney Opera House - this is a joy filled
Composition which certainly praises God.In the Symphonic Choir there are
120 members of all different persuasions - at rehearsal the following
week a person who was in the audience that night came up to me and said
'Congratulations'I asked 'what on earth for?''For the Rutter'
He went on to explain - During the singing of the Rutter you shone - it
was like there was a light coming out of your face, there was another who
did the same.We have strict rules of stage behaviour - no moving or jigging
or lifting hands(frozen might be a better word).I assure you ,I really did
want to lift my hands! The other who shone is not a christian but is in fact
a practising gay man - obviously he has an anointing but
God hasn't called yet however HE WILL - the man's name is Simon(we have at
least 30 practicing christians in the choir)

So where is all this leading - I know that many wish to serve in a church in
some area and quite often the more visible ministries attract a person more
readily, but perhaps less is more in the context of a worship team ,in the
above example 120 singers who are all very good singers/musicians only 2
appear to have the anointing(we audition upwards of 1000 singers each
year). We really need to identify those who are called to lead rather than
those who just want a job in the church

God Bless

Clare Mary

P.S. I was supposed to be on leave for the Rutter programme but our
Musical Director rang me just 2 rehearsals before the performance to
sing in it - everyone else have 7 rehearsals
