Re: [Worship] What do you look for in a song?

Hi everyone,
greetings from the UK. I'm new to the group but this question really grabbed me.
Personally, I look to see if the lyrics reflect what God is doing in our fellowship. We
have a number of conferences that go on here in the UK and people attending always bring
back a "great song they heard at conference" which worked well and was appropriate in
the 3,000 plus crowd of on-fire 'super Christians' (just a joke!) but here amongst the
100 or so just trying to hold it together folk, the sentiments are a little lost. I'm a
firm believer in encouraging people to move-on-up from where they currently are but I
also believe as Worship Leaders, we have to make the step seem possible, hence I focus
on the lyrics. As a musician (guitarist/keyboard), I like the song to have a 'nice
feel' - chords that flow nicely. We use a song in our Church based on a Psalm which is a
beautiful song, but can any of us get to grips with the progression!?

Sorry about the length of the post - got a bit carried away!

God bless to all, keep on keeping on!

Granville Harris

Hi List,
I have a question as a song writer. When you look for new songs for Praise
and Worship, what do you look for or listen for?
What is it about a song that grabs you? Does a song ever have to grow on
you?
Just wondering, Pastor Jerry
