[Worship] A heart for worship but not a lot of skill

Kevin,
I always ask those that wanted to join the team to rehearse for 6 months
with the praise team before they came on the platform. One of the reasons
for this was to help those that had the right heart but low skill level, an
opportunity to work on their skills. Most of the time I would put them on
much sooner. I would do all I could to help a person with the right heart to
develop. I have in the past found another musician to tutor a player. Or I
would work with them during the week. I would also allow them to sit in on a
Sunday evening or Midweek service and turn them way down. I let them know
they would be turned down. But if it is a main instrument that might not
work. I had a guitar player I sent to Children's church to play for them to
get some practice and to serve. Also home group where only 3 or 4 songs
would be used a week. I ask that he practice them and I would ask each week
how he did.
Anything to get him practice and allow him to serve.
What you did not mention is this person already on the team? Because if he
is a main player that's hard. But if he has the right heart and a desire to
improve I would try to work with him.But I would expect him to improve.
I don't know if this helps at all. Maybe someone else will have some
answers. Pastor Jerry
