[Worship] liturgical praise services

Hey y'all!
I see from many of the lists that some of you work in Lutheran churches.
I've just taken a position in a Lutheran church after many years of serving
in Methodist and other denominations. This is my first call to a liturgical
church.  They would like to start a "contemporary" service.  I attended one
this morning in another large Lutheran church nearby and it was essentially
a regular liturgical service with praise songs inserted in the hymn spots.
Can you help me out?  Is this what would be expected in all Lutheran
churches?  Being a Presbyterian, myself, I'm learning the chants and other
parts of the traditional Lutheran service, quite different for me!  So, is
the liturgy "required" even in a praise service or do Lutherans call them
"contemporary" just because they change the music?  Some of the lliturgy had
more "modern" texts-I don't know where they found them-and the responses are
different from the traditional responses found in the regular hymnal. Can
anyone give me some ideas that are acceptable in Lutheran services?  Or does
the local synod have something to say about this?  Since I am just in the
research stage, I haven't as yet discussed any of this with the pastor. I am
at a very laid back, informal church which sometimes seems out of place when
they are doing the liturgy.  They like today's choral music rather than
classics for traditional and have often used guitar,etc in that service.  It
would be rather easy, I think ,to switch to praise for one of their three
services.  I appreciate all the wisdom I find on this list.  Thanx.
