[Worship] Undefined Worship Song
I just wrote a song to, well, encourage people not to sing my song, but their
song. What I mean is that I am at the place in my Christian walk where I don't
want to sing someone else's song. Sure it's nice, and it's a nice entrance and
place of familiarity and all, but at least for me I felt that my worship was a
bit hollow, echoing someone else's words to music they wrote too! I think
that's fine for perhaps a large percentage of congregational worship, but for
me personally, I don't feel like I'm giving the Lord my all in this type of
setting.
So, I wrote a song that basically starts out that I can't sing someone else's
song/lyrics, that while that's good and fine for them, it's not coming from my
heart, but the composer (although I can sing it worshipfully, sincere, etc...).
The intent of the song is to facilitate everyone who is gathered to worship
Jesus to sing their own song to Him.
I'm just curious if anyone has done this, with this intent with the direction
of the H.S. to do so? Please don't misunderstand, I'm not against singing a
hymn or chorus, and I think it's all good, but I also believe that we can
easily fall into ritual and tradition and lose our intent to lift and glorify
His name. And that goes for spontaneous worship too! That can breed 'going
through the motions' just as easy as anything.
