[Worship] putting songs in singable keys

I'm a singer/worship leader but I don't usually get to choose the keys
we sing in as that is usually chosen by the musicians.  One is an ace
keyboard player and if I think a song is too high for me when I'm
leading (I'm an alto but I can sing high if I have to) he just
transposes to see what is most comfortable for me but which we also feel
will suit the congregation. At our practice this week we discussed this
problem and one particular song which we are trying. I was very
comfortable low but everyone else thought it sounded too dull when it
went too low.  We decided that e-E was a comfortable range for most
folk.
