Re: [Worship] Getting Comfortable

I agree very much with Nina's points on this.

We have recently become more conscious of what new songs we are presenting,
trying to think ahead as to how it will work with our congregation.

For example, the music sheets our team sing/play from, are usually made
using 22 Arail Font. The reason that is important, is because we have found
that if any song we are doing takes up more than 1 page, we have a much
greater chance of the congregation feeling lost in that song.

It is also important that the team doesn't get so attached to a new song
that they can't ditch it. We have gotten into situations where the team, or
even just one member of our team, became very invested in a song. What ends
up happening is that when the decision was made that the song wasn't
working, it became personal for the team/person. Sometimes that decision may
not even be made, just to avoid the fallout.
It certainly can be difficult, but I think any song that is introduced,
should be done with a "make it or break it" attitude, where if it isn't
working after valiantly trying, you put it aside and move on.

The focus is on assisting the congregation in worshipping God, and in as
much as we have the power to facilitate that function, we also have the
power to hinder it. So leading with discernment is very important. This
means understanding your own congregation. The things we have tried are
working for us, but it may not for others. The understanding will come in
knowing your "audience". ( I know the audience is really God, but you get my
drift. )

God Rocks,
Stacy
