[Worship] RE: not gellin' ..... having a hoot
To: Fawn and the list,
A merry heart makes a good medicine. Hmm. Maybe the congregation needed a big dose of laughter to loosen up a bit for worship.
So many times, I have planned music for a service and was disappointed with myself because I didn't come up with something better. Then, we'd start to do an "old" song that you would think the congregation might be a little tired of ... and gee ... for some reason, you could see that people were being touched and set free (and don't we know why).
There also have been times when I practiced and practiced and was sure that I could play a song --- and would get to the piano and oh... what a mess (I guess we know why that happened too).
Then, there was times when I didn't prepare to play a song (my sightreading isn't that hot at all), and would be amazed how great it came out (we know what happened there too).
So, I've learned that no matter how much practice "I" do, I need help from the Holy Spirit to be able to do anything that will bless the Lord and his people. Any skill I have comes from God. Even so, skill is not enough. God has a way of taking our best and making it better. God knows our hearts.
God knows that your group was doing its best to serve and God just took it and made it even better.
It's also awesome that the congregation was more concerned with the worship than with the music. Sometimes, people get too hung up on hitting every note perfectly and looking great -- but the ministry isn't there.
It's great that your group was ministering and worshipping the Lord and could be used by the Lord. Wow. Keep up the great work for Jesus.

Subject: [Worship] not gellin' ..... having a hoot
Ok, we DIDN"T gell yesterday morning.
I started out playing rhythm guitar, when the worship
leader grabbed my tambourine and vacated the keyboard and
left the real guitar players adopting a panic look. I
jumped over to the keyboard, which I have NEVER played in
front of the congregation, and I might add, didnt 'play'
yesterday either, as the drummer was banging away, trying
to stay on beat 'cause he usually plays bass.......
Well, we only did it for one song and it was a raging hoot!
The congregation was taken pretty well off guard as they
just looked at us in disbelief....and laughed.
But then, we really were trying to get it together and we
couldn't make it easy. It was a struggle the whole time.
You woulda thought we had never played ever in our lives.
And then God showed up...
And people were crying in the pews and praying at the altar
and the babies were tapping their toes. And I never did
feel like we gelled. And after we exited the side door, the
drummer guy apologized because he had made so many
mistakes. And we all looked at each other and I said, "I
don't think any of us did anything right."..."I think we
did just what we were supposed to do...let God do what He
wanted to do." and we all laughed and went in to listen to
the sermon.
Colossians 1:17 says, "He holds all creation together."
Guess we gelled after all. !!!
