RE: [Worship] Having to Make A Decision
Johanna, I'm sure that, like myself, many of those on this list went
immediately into prayer for you and your congregation. I was just reading
this morning about what it means to be a member of the Body of Christ. We
acquire His very attributes, if imperfectly, and one thing we know is that
God does not create confusion (I Corinthians 14:33).
When a worship team has to beg a congregation just to get its attention,
something else is going on.
It's so easy to get familiar with Jesus Christ and start treating Him as if
He's our Supreme Good Buddy instead of our Lord and Saviour. Worship
should re-center us in our relationship with Jesus, re-positioning us at
an angle where we stand in awe of, and respond to, who He is and what He
has done and is doing in our lives. This is basic stuff. Based on what
you say is happening, it appears that the pastor has perhaps misunderstood
the nature and purpose of true worship. If I'm understanding scripture
correctly, this "catch and catch can" approach is roundly unbiblical!
I truly can't say whether you should stay or go. Standing in the midst of
the fire is so tough. But so many churches need to be guided into a proper
worship of their Lord and Saviour, and it could be that God has chosen to
begin the learning process through you. Be assured that He has His eye on
the situation and your part in it.
