Re: [Worship] Age minimum for praise singers?
We have a drummer who is 8 years old and he is very good! But, he's one of
those "born with it" kids, however, he does take lessons too. We are always
getting favorable comments about him. We've also had teen singers, from time
to time, who've done very well, for the most part... (they do tend to come
and go though as other interests drift in).
Just from our experience, here are a few observations I've had that could be
a consideration:
1. Children who don't drive will likely rely on parents to bring them, so
you need to make sure the
parents (or whoever) are as committed as the child.
2. Sometimes a child will have to decide between praise band or sports (or
other things that require
their time on practice night). Many times it's the praise band that
gets hind tit......(was that a bad
choice of words?)
3. Children are sometimes very sensitive and their feelings get hurt
easily, even with gentle
constructive advice or in relaying the way you want something done.
(We've had this problem with
the drummer). They just seem to need a little more of your time and
special consideration...so if
you aren't willing to deal with them a bit differently than with the
more mature, you could run into
some problems.
I really like the idea Jeff mentioned of starting them in the background for
training...we haven't done that, but it's an excellent idea!
Blessings!

I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my
mouth. My soul shall makes it's boast in the Lord; The humble shall hear of
it and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name
together.
Psalm 34:1-3
