Re: [Worship] A CCLI Question
It's been awhile since I have been directly involved with CCLI compliance,
but as I recall the instructions for documenting the copyright info on the
projection stated that if there was not room on the screen, specifically in
the case of SLIDES, that the info could be recorded on the frame. My policy
was to put the copyright info on every page (we used transparencies at the
time) but not necessarily on the part of the page that was to be projected.
Two reasons - 1) I believe that CCLI was primarily concerned with each hard
copy being identified and 2) I didn't put any words on the screen that I
didn't want people to actually sing. Someone has already mentioned that
there is a difference between complying with the law and honoring your
covenant with CCLI. I believe that by having a CCLI license you are legally
covered, but that it is a matter of integrity and perhaps even your personal
safety to honor your agreement with CCLI. If CCLI feels that you didn't
handle your copyright info correctly, I don't think they will sue you - I
think they will tell you so that you can correct it and then if they do not
feel that you are compliant they will cancel your membership.
I can't believe I'm even responding to this topic - I agree copyright issues
in general have been discussed way too often and way too heatedly. The best
source for info about CCLI is CCLI. If the answer to your question is not
in their manual, I'm sure that their customer service would be glad to
answer most questions promptly, and their answers would be far more accurate
and less controversial than the ones you get on this list. So, why am I
still talking . . . ?
