Re: [Worship] Expressive Praise & Worship
Joy, this is a very good point below.
Have any of you ever wondered why the Bible doesn't explicitly teach on how
to praise God?
I believe that the reason is that praise is innate in all of us. We already
know how to do it. It's natural. We praises our friends, our spouses, our
children, sports teams, musicians. We even praise things.....ex when we tell
our neighbor of a great product or service that we have discovered.
I agree with Joy. Praise *can't* be quietly done. Show me one scripture
where it is and I'll reconsider this opinion.
Speaking of opinions, I'm troubled that we're giving more opinions than
scripture on this topic so let me throw out some scripture.
I did some word searches on the word "praise." There are so many references
that I haven't gotten out of II Chronicles yet. I'm listing a few that I
found that give us "models" for praise. In other words, they describe how
people praised:
Judges 5:3 - 3Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will
sing unto the LORD; I will sing praise to the LORD God of Israel.
I Chronicles 23:5 - 5Moreover four thousand were porters; and four thousand
praised the LORD with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise
therewith.
II Chronicles 7:6 - 6And the priests waited on their offices: the Levites
also with instruments of musick of the LORD, which David the king had made
to praise the LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever, when David praised
by their ministry; and the priests sounded trumpets before them, and all
Israel stood.
II Chronicles 20:21-22 - 21And when he had consulted with the people, he
appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of
holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for
his mercy endureth for ever. 22And when they began to sing and to praise,
the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount
Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.
II Chronicles 23:13 - 13And she looked, and, behold, the king stood at his
pillar at the entering in, and the princes and the trumpets by the king: and
all the people of the land rejoiced, and sounded with trumpets, also the
singers with instruments of musick, and such as taught to sing praise.
II Chronicles 29:30 - 30Moreover Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded
the Levites to sing praise unto the LORD with the words of David, and of
Asaph the seer. And they sang praises with gladness, and they bowed their
heads and worshipped.
This last verse (II Chronicles 29:30) is the most profound. I'd say that it
sums up both Praise & Worship. Notice that it talks about singing praise and
bowing heads in worship. This reinforces the notion that praise is to
rejoice, to celebrate and to proclaim God's greatness. Worship is to lower
ourselves in humble submission and adoration of God.
These scriptures all demonstrate action. Praise & Worship are verbs not
merely nouns.

Quiet worship is completely a-okay with me! Quiet *praise*...? I dunno.
Maybe it can be done, but the nature of praise, to me, lies in its
communication. Common sense (to me) indicates that when you think someone
(or something) is great, you want as many people to know, (and you want to
make sure the object of your affection knows that you're not ashamed
either!)
