Re: [Worship] history and future of music etc.

I have a software plug in for my recording software called "Auto Tune"
which automatically corrects the pitch of what is recorded. In
addition to the modern equal tempered scale, which is used for tuning
pianos, it lists the following scales: Ling Lun, Scholars Lute, Greek
Diatonic, Greek Chromatic, Greek Enharmonic, Pythagorean, Just,
Meantone, Werkmeister III, Valotti and Young, Barnes-Bach,

There are also several "ethnic scales." Indian, Selendro, Pelog, Arabic
1 and Arabic 2.
The ethnic scales are, of course, for doing ethnic music.

The western scale is a compromise so that a piano can be played with
different key signatures and sound the same in each one. If you tune
your piano with one of the other scales, it will sound "better" though
beauty is in the ear of the beholder, but it will only sound better in
one key signature and will sound pretty strange in other key signatures.
It's a little hard to stop in the middle of a piece and retune the
piano because of a key change.

If I am recording something that is all in one key I prefer the Valotti
and Young Scale. It raises the third note of the scale up a little
higher, which, I'm am told, sounds better to "western" ears. (Though
technically, I am not a westerner).

Brother, this is a lot longer than I planned. I guess I must be from
Babylon!

In Christ,
