Hi, all --
For those of you who don't know me, I'm the worship coordinator of my church. I plan the services and lead the segment of choruses our church does. We have been doing a blended service for 3 years now. We didn't want to make wholesale changes and ignore the needs of the older people in our congregation (who are the majority). But there is a group of people that would like to see us do 1/2 hour of continuous music in preparation for hearing the Word.
Our church is entering it's third year in an interim situation between pastors. We have a wise dedicated interim pastor. For over a year now, our worship ministry team meetings have been unfruitful (this is not the team which leads worship, but the team which makes decisions about worship). This team is led by a guy who has a great heart but doesn't know how to get discussions rolling beyond discussing what people want to see changed or what they like. Most of his meetings begin with "looking at what we can change". We have a church which is split generationally, with the majority of people over 60 and a core of families under 50.
Does anyone have suggestions for questions which move beyond personal preference? Any starting points for discussion so that we can identify the purpose for worship at our church?
Thanks,
Dixie
