Now, Steve, your relationship with your pastor may allow for such short-term
scrambling and if so then that's great. Or there may be a circumstance that
has quickly arisen that was beyond his control.

But in the absence of any of the above, that takes guts (on the part of the
pastor). Not one, nor two, but three songs requested just hours before the
service. And calling someone at work to take care of it to boot! At this
stage of the game, methinks I would have told the pastor to find them
himself. Or do without.

This happened to me once regarding a memorial service. I arrived at work on
Monday to find a message left very late the previous Friday (after I had
gone home) requesting an additional song. No one had bothered to leave the
message at home, as well, or even talk to me on Sunday. I followed through
for the sake of the family who had lost a loved one, but I had to set the
pastor straight a few days later. But if not for the fact that my boss is
himself a Christian and was even willing to help me track down the necessary
music online (of all thngs we were looking for "Anchors Aweigh" for the ol'
navy captain), I would not have been able to honor the request anyway. Not
only did I lose work time looking for the music, I had to leave even earlier
so I could practice the song! So I got little work done that morning. All
due to a lack of consideration on the part of the church staff. But they
don't do those kinds of things anymore. :-)

Soldier on!
